As the Midweight Graphic Designer, you will play a crucial role in producing high-quality visual designs and digital assets that align with our brand guidelines and effectively engage diverse audiences with the work of Imperial, supporting our strategic priorities. Collaborating closely with our Marketing, Advancement and Communications teams, you'll be instrumental in delivering captivating design solutions across various platforms.
Your work as the Midweight Designer will contribute to a wide range of activities, including student recruitment, alumni relations, fundraising activities, campus decoration, College events, materials for senior leadership, and profiling academic research, innovations, and College projects.
Under the guidance of the Deputy Head of Design & Editorial, you'll collaborate with the creative team and the Communications Division while undertaking projects with other teams across the College.
Duties and responsibilities
As the Midweight Designer, your responsibilities will include conceptualising, developing, and executing innovative and visually appealing designs for a variety of marketing materials. These materials will span print collateral, digital assets, social media graphics, web banners, infographics, and presentations. Your input will also contribute to the development of effective creative strategies, enhancing user experiences and achieving marketing objectives. You will also liaise with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and translate ideas into compelling design work.
Ensuring consistency in the use of our visual identity and adherence to brand guidelines across all design deliverables will be a key aspect of your role, maintaining a cohesive brand style. You'll manage multiple design projects concurrently, adhering to timelines, milestones, and priorities to meet project deadlines effectively.
With guidance from the Deputy Head of Design & Editorial, you'll receive feedback from stakeholders and make necessary revisions to designs, ensuring a high level of quality and client satisfaction. Additionally, you'll be responsible for organising and maintaining digital assets, including images, fonts, and design files, making sure they are easily accessible and appropriately archived.
Essential requirements
To excel as a Midweight Graphic Designer, the following qualifications and skills are essential:
- A degree in Graphic Design or a related field is preferred.
- Professional graphic design experience, ideally in a marketing or creative agency or in-house environment (preferably 3-5 years).
- A strong portfolio showcasing diverse design projects across multiple mediums, demonstrating creativity, technical skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects, along with other relevant design software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling you to effectively articulate design concepts and collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
- A passion for creativity, innovation, and a keen eye for aesthetics, bringing fresh and original ideas to the table.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, allowing you to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, project requirements, and emerging design trends.
Further information
This is a full time, fixed term position for 12 months. You will be based at South Kensington Campus.
