Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. In addition, the phlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team on an as required basis. You will need to be able to work independently as well as part of a team, a caring and sensitive approach to work, good communication skills with patients and other health care professionals and a flexible approach to work. Staff at Solent View medical Practice must adhere to the information contained with practice policies and regional directives, ensuring protocols are adhered to at all times.

Staff will be given detailed information during the induction process regarding policy and procedure. The following are the core responsibilities of the phlebotomist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels: a. Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample b.

Perfoming venepunture in accordance with practice protocols c. Maintaining accurate patient records d. The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples e. Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies f.

Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner g.
